Moving water.
Neo-Oriental takes the vocabulary of traditional Japanese tattooing (koi, hannya, serpents, waves and blossoms) and rebuilds it with contemporary color and flow.
These are body-scale compositions. Backs, sleeves and legs are planned as one continuous current, so the piece moves with the anatomy instead of sitting on top of it.
Neo-Oriental differs from classic Japanese irezumi in the rendering, not the subject. The hannya mask, the koi, the dragon and the peony all carry the same meaning they have carried for centuries. What changes is the execution: brighter contrast, deeper colour and a cleaner edge, drawn to read well on modern skin and under modern light.
